There has been a rather announcement made, re. transfers. I generally like transfers. It shakes up the dynamics and makes things interesting.

However, one of the transfers today has left me staring blankly at the screen. Ema Naoki is to be pulled out of Hoshigumi and into Senka. Ema Naoki. Mariko's batchmate sempai. She has been in that troupe since she started with the company. To be honest, I would rather she retired than be taken from Hoshi :( She is Hoshi.

The big news of the day is that Kiriya Hiromu, topstar of Tsukigumi, is retiring. It feels strange, knowing this is the first time I can clearly remember the retirements of two successive top stars. I joined fandom just as Komu was departing, and I saw Mizu going as well, but I didn't really remember Komu's departure so well.

This time, it's Kiriyan. Kiriyan who has been the face of Tsukigumi for me for years, as so many people came and went. Kiriyan, who took every role and made it her own. Kiriyan, who made me laugh and cry and simply be awed. Kiriyan, who has Finch-kun.

I'm not sad, persay. I'm happy to see a Topstar who has polished her troupe until it shone. Asako was wonderful, but Tsuki's glitter was fading when she left. Kiriyan took her troupe and made it shine again, so brightly. I was fortunate enough to see their bitter, melancholy Elisabeth with Asako and then the sheer, exuberant madness that was The Gypsy Baron in Tokyo.

Kiriyan renewed Tsukigumi and she's leaving while it's still blazing like a firework. She's leaving while she's healthy and happy and the troupe are at their best. She's taken the troupe she loves and polished it until it shines, and now, she's ready to let it go.

And to be honest, I can not wait to see what she's going to do next :)

I can't say I was wholly surprised by the news that Matobu Sei will retire in 2011. I think many of us saw it coming. She became Top Star a year after Mizu, and she's leaving less than a year after Mizu did. I'll miss her, because she was such a charming, dotty and fun Top Star. I count it a privelege I was able to see her at her comedic best in Me and My Girl when I was in Osaka last year.

I don't see this as the end of her career, though. She loves performing far too much to stop :) And how she's grown since she was a Hoshi baby under Mariko so many years ago. Good luck to her.

For the impending 100th anniversary of Takarazuka, there is a rather epic show planned. And typically, it's got Mariko in it, the year I really can't afford to go to J-land, since I'm already potentially booked for Egypt, Poland and either Hungary or the Czech Republic. And Hayaya! And seriously, such an awesome cast! Komu, Shion Yuu, Osa, Ootori Rei! GAH! WANNA GO!

To any friends who will be hitting J-land in January/February, please see it for me and report back on how awesome it is please? Just look at that cast list! Really! It must be seen, for lo, they are all so very amazing!

EEEEEEEEEEEEH! So excited! Hoshigumi are doing Presgurvic's Romeo & Juliette! I've been wishing they would ever since I saw it live in Hungary, for it is awesome and amazing and has so many great roles and big dramatic dance numbers! It's perfect for them.

And look at what the otokoyakus get to do:

Boy-fun! In a song about how awesome everything is! AWESOME! LIKE THIS SHOW WILL BE :D

This didn't come as a big surprise. Ever since I watched Zorro, I've been waiting for it. She's at that level of frightening-thinness which is usually a precursor to retirement in Siennes.

However, what I think is fantastic is that she looks like she's already prepping herself for a JRock/Pop career:

I can't wait to see where she goes from Takarazuka in September :) (After a good meal or six as well)

It does, though, bring to mind the question of the succession. I would like to see Kimu do well, but I don't know if they won't maybe bring someone slightly more senior in, at least for a little while.

Though this isn't exactly new news, it's still news of a sort. The lady in question retired yesterday and she looked happier than she has in a long time.

My reason for bringing her up is because Asako was the first Takarazuka Top Star I ever saw live, in her second-to-last show, and she was astounding. I knew she was good, but I never expected her voice to be as bone-meltingly incredible as it was. She had power and charisma, and while she was clearly tiring then, she still burned the stage up. She was also one of the first Takarasiennes I saw, when I watched the Hanagumi Elisabeth, and I was smitten with her from Ernest in Love.

She's always struck me as not just a wonderful singer, but a very, very strong character actress who can express so much with the twitch of her lips or a dart of her eyes. Her comedy especially was wonderful, which is why Ernest remains ones of my favourite shows to this day. Her dynamic with not only Ayane-chan, but with Kiriyan, Ai-chan and every member of the troupe in the shows was enough to show why she was such a good Top Star.

I hope she will continue to perform, though if she doesn't, I'll understand why. Most of all, I hope that she can find some happiness and smile like she used to do, back before the pressure of being Top Star wore her out.

Farewell to the other Tsukigumi actresses as well, but as someone who has loved Asako since I first fell into fandom, I bid you farewell, Asako.

For those who don't know, Ayabuki Mao, Yukigumi's stalwart Nibante, is retiring next year.

This one came as a shock to me. I've been expecting Mizu Natsuki to retire in the coming year, but since I don't tend towards the grapevine, this came out of the blue. I don't know if there's a rule of age or however-many-ken not being Top Star, but Yumiko's been a solid Nibante for almost 7 years, with Osa and now, Mizu.

Maybe she didn't want Top. Maybe she did. I suspect not, because she left Flower when she was all but due to be top there. All the same, I wish she was staying, even if it was only as Senka. I'll miss her smile and her dimples, and will watch for her future career very eagerly.

So, speculation proved accurate and Tsukigumi gets Pimpernel :D I'm awfully happy about this, because it's such a good show for troupe dynamics, plus it lets Kiriyan do fun and serious at the same time :D My only concern is about who they get for Chauvelin. Masaki is the best bet at present, but I don't know if her voice is ready. Will wait with bated breath :)

(Now, if only it wasn't on in the months leading up to my sister's wedding when I have her hen-do to arrange. Curses...)

Sad news for Tsukigumi fans with the following retirements in December: Sena Jun, Ryouga Haruhi, Otoki Sunao, Shirosaki Ai, Atsuki Renka, Hazakura Shizuku and Urara Moe.

Of all of them, I'm quite sad about Ai-chan, simply because I had hopes she would turn into a character actress of epic standing in the company much like Izumo Aya did many moons ago. She's been one of my favourite Musumeyaku for a long while, and it'll be sad to see her go. Likewise, Ahi will be missed, simply for her presence and her ability to tower over every single other person in the troupe.

Asako, on the other hand, I'm glad to see go. When a performer is looking as sad and tired as she was, I think it's time for her to move onto better things. Good luck to all of them, though. And now, the intrigue about the new Tsukigumi Top Star commences anew.
masahi: (Moon Troupe - Tsukigumi)
I didn't think it would happen, but I'm awfully happy that Kiriya Hiromu has been named the new Tsukigumi Otokoyaku Top Star :) I've adored her ever since I first saw the Tsukigumi 05 Elisabeth, and she's one of the reasons that Tsuki and Hoshi have remained such close rivals in my affections.

I will wait with bated breath over the new Top Musumeyaku. I'd love to see Ai-Chan get it, but I have a sneaking feeling that she'd be happy in the character roles and sticking around forever like Azumo Aya did. However, I have been wrong before ;)
masahi: (Star Troupe - Hoshigumi)
I know it's a common thing to have a few OGs showing up and doing a show, but this show is the first that makes me flail like a crazy person and wish I could teleport to Japan.

It doesn't hurt that it's a whole swathe of Star OGs. What makes me wail about missing it is that it's the chance to see Asaji Saki and Ayaki Nao perform together again for the first time in 11 years! Mariko! Saeko! Together! Two of my favourites!

Incidentally, if anyone in Japan is reading this, please see this show on my behalf? Please? I just know it's going to be amazing.
