masahi: (Star Troupe - Hoshigumi)
Since I've got a computer that works, I managed to snip out a clip of my favourite scene from Star's 1993 Paparagi revue, which features a very entertaining drunken dance-off and Izumo Aya being fabulous in the background:

And rewatching, I'm impressed by how unbony the musumeyaku are compared to now. Even the waists now seem a good few inches smaller.

NOTES: While watching The Scarlet Pimpernel for the umpteenth time, I realised that between this and Rose of Versailles, that is the most a lot of Japanese women will know about the French revolution. Then, of course, my brain was evil and got me wondering what would happen if Percy was in France before the revolution. And then, before I knew it, I was writing this.
And, for the record, I don't really like The Rose of Versailles, even if Oscar is a fascinating character.
And should anyone care, my mental muses are Aran Kei's Percy with various strong Zuka ladies imagined in that awful Oscar wig. I've never sat through a full show, so I don't know which she is most like, although sometimes, I think Chie is my biggest influence lately, even if she never played Oscar...

Link: Another spectacular ball was being held. Oscar watched the whirling, colourful figures in silence, hidden by the pillars and gorgeous drapes bought for the occasion. It was expected, her Lady said. One had to put on a show to entertain the population.
