The big news of the day is that Kiriya Hiromu, topstar of Tsukigumi, is retiring. It feels strange, knowing this is the first time I can clearly remember the retirements of two successive top stars. I joined fandom just as Komu was departing, and I saw Mizu going as well, but I didn't really remember Komu's departure so well.

This time, it's Kiriyan. Kiriyan who has been the face of Tsukigumi for me for years, as so many people came and went. Kiriyan, who took every role and made it her own. Kiriyan, who made me laugh and cry and simply be awed. Kiriyan, who has Finch-kun.

I'm not sad, persay. I'm happy to see a Topstar who has polished her troupe until it shone. Asako was wonderful, but Tsuki's glitter was fading when she left. Kiriyan took her troupe and made it shine again, so brightly. I was fortunate enough to see their bitter, melancholy Elisabeth with Asako and then the sheer, exuberant madness that was The Gypsy Baron in Tokyo.

Kiriyan renewed Tsukigumi and she's leaving while it's still blazing like a firework. She's leaving while she's healthy and happy and the troupe are at their best. She's taken the troupe she loves and polished it until it shines, and now, she's ready to let it go.

And to be honest, I can not wait to see what she's going to do next :)

Summary:
Der Zigeuner Baron - Based on Johann Strauss II's operetta of the same name, the story follows Sterk Barinkay, son of a Baron who is nudged into reclaiming his land by the Empress. The local Pig farmer, who is trying to find Barinkay's father's long-lost treasure is unimpressed, and to ensure he will still get a share of the booty, he tries to persuade Barinkay to marry one of his daughter. All would be well if one of the daughters wasn't in love with a servant, and Barinkay didn't run into that fleet of local gypsies...

Rhapsodic Moon - A "rhapsodic" dancing and singing revue, whose backdrop is the mysterious beauty of the moon and the energy generated from its radiance. The stars of the Moon Troupe display their diverse charms as they weave together fantastic music with passionate dancing. (This summary taken from the official website)

So, speculation proved accurate and Tsukigumi gets Pimpernel :D I'm awfully happy about this, because it's such a good show for troupe dynamics, plus it lets Kiriyan do fun and serious at the same time :D My only concern is about who they get for Chauvelin. Masaki is the best bet at present, but I don't know if her voice is ready. Will wait with bated breath :)

(Now, if only it wasn't on in the months leading up to my sister's wedding when I have her hen-do to arrange. Curses...)

There's been quite a bit of speculation going on about what Kiriyan's Grand Theatre debut will be as Top Star. A lot of people are whispering about The Scarlet Pimpernel.

This may have just been given a little more credence given the fact Frank Wildhorn is going to be in Japan in March 2010, just about when rehearsals for Tsukigumi's show get under way. He is mostly going to be there for a concert/show featuring Aran Kei and Mate Kamaras, previously performed by Ichiro Maki and Uwe Kroeger. However, I do wonder if his main motive is to see another of his shows Zukafied.

It's known that Kiriyan loves Wildhorn shows, and her favourite is Jekyll and Hyde. It's only speculation, but wouldn't be it be awesomesauce to see her do that role? Also, it's a good show for Tsuki at the moment, since it has no set top Musume, so if they still haven't decided, they can test out people against her. Plus, multiple male roles as support.

Thoughts? :)

I didn't think it would happen, but I'm awfully happy that Kiriya Hiromu has been named the new Tsukigumi Otokoyaku Top Star :) I've adored her ever since I first saw the Tsukigumi 05 Elisabeth, and she's one of the reasons that Tsuki and Hoshi have remained such close rivals in my affections.

I will wait with bated breath over the new Top Musumeyaku. I'd love to see Ai-Chan get it, but I have a sneaking feeling that she'd be happy in the character roles and sticking around forever like Azumo Aya did. However, I have been wrong before ;)

Summary:
Francis, a Knight's Templar, escapes pursuing soldiers into a small community. He's saved by Lydia, who sucks the poison from his wounds. She - and her family - transpire to be good vampires. However, the local monastry protects a cross bound by the seal of roses. If the seal is broken, the soul of an evil vampire will be set loose again.

By sheer bad luck, a young monk, Mikhail, is in love with Lydia. When Lydia and Francis inevitably get together, Mikhail goes somewhat... mad and breaks the seal, and is possessed by the evil vampire soul. He kills Lydia, but the newly-vampired Francis survives.

The rest of the story follows the two vampires trying to find the jewels that form the seal, Mikhail to control it and Francis to close the seal again to stop Mikhail. Wacky historical adventures ensue.
