masahiIt is with great surprise I found myself setting up this account. If someone had told me, a couple of years ago, I would have laughed. The way of the fangirl can be a tricky path to predict, so here we are - my Takarazuka journal.
A brief summary about me is required, I feel: I'm a 20-something wannabe writer with an abiding love of musicals that has lasted over 20 years. I think that I'm the only Takarazuka fangirl in Scotland, but if there are more of us out there, hello!
My Takarazuka love emerged in spring of 2006. While in the throes of European-musicals glee, I stumbled onto a video on youtube, which has dramatically changed my outlook on life, the world and everything. It was a promotional trailer for a production of Elisabeth by something called Takarazuka.
First, there was intrigue at the fact this was an all-woman, all-singing, all-dancing musical company. Then, I saw more and more shows and started finding myself merchandise, and I'm afraid I have developed something of an addiction.
That's not to say I don't still follow standard theatre, European especially, but I needed a special little place for all the Takarazuka love that I have, for the shows and the performers, past and present.
My all-time favourite Sienne is Asaji Saki, even though she is retired. I absolutely adore her, but I do have a legion of others who I will happily watch as well. My troupe affiliation is split between Tsukigumi(Moon) and Hoshigumi(Star), since I'm indecisive and love them both :)
I can't claim to be an expert on the company or to know all the terms or names, but I'm a fan and I'm happy to be so, and I'll cheerfully welcome anyone else who is along for the ride.
