An Officer & A Gentleman speculation

masahiSince I will be seeing this show in October/November (YAY FLIGHTS BOOKED!), I made myself sit down and watched An Officer and a Gentleman. It's like Top Gun, only with less female empowerment and the Navy. Thank you 80s, for your abundance of armed-forces-related drivel.
Still, I can see why they would like it for the Siennes: uniforms and lots of them. In various shapes, sizes and colours. Especially the exceedingly famous dapper white one.
Now, some speculation about the show, including spoilers.
Summary for those who don't know: Zack is a Naval brat. His father was a drunken philandering sailor, whose desertion broke Zack's mum's heart. Mum topped herself. Out of spite and determination, Zack decides he wants to join the Naval Aviators, and signs himself up for Officer School. Of course, all does not go well, because wouldn't you know it, he doesn't seem like officer material. Still, best friend Sid and others help him through.
Then, we have the subplot: Lynette and Paula, two local girls, who end up dating Sid and Zack. Both guys are in it for fun. Zack ditches Paula after she introduces him to her family. Lynette ends up pregnant, which drives Sid over the edge between obligation and what he wants. He demobs, proposes and is turned down flat. She wanted a fly-boy and had lied about the baby. Sid, devastated, tops himself, and is found by Zack. Zack manages to get through the rest of training (after a severe butt-kicking from his Sarge) and realises that he actually doesn't want to break it off with Paula, goes to the factory where she works and carries her off into the sunset. Literally.
So, my speculation about this show as the Siennes would do it:
And a quick cast-guess is easy: Zack=Chie, Paula=Nene, Sid=Teru, Mayo Sr=Ema Naoki, Sarge=Toyoko, Lynette=Otohana Yuri, Seeger=Shirahana Remi. Other platoon members are a mixed bag of everyone else, but we'll see :)
On the whole, it has potential: melodrama, angst, two suicides. Everyone knows how much Japanese theatre loves a suicide or two. I'll be looking forward to seeing what they do to make that 80s pap vaguely palateable.

- There will be flashbacks to young!Zack finding his mother after she kills herself. Possibly only one, but maybe a pre-suicide when she tells him about his brave Daddy who will come back for them. (If Mikkii gets young!Zack, I'm sure she'll throw something)
- Zack's alcoholic dad gets slightly more than 2 minutes - I can see this being a Naoki role.
- Slightly expanded roles for other soldiers, since Seeger is the only memorable one. Even if she is awesome.
- The pregnancy arc. I do wonder if they'll include it (plus the lots-o-sex) or just make it a case that Lynette wants to get a ring on her finger. I suspect it may be the second. Especially since cutting out the nookie means we get at least half an hour off the film length.
- Drill Sergeant Foley being Sanbante role. I would love to see Toyoko in this part
