Summary: Asaji Saki's final dinner show and a reflection on her career.

With this being Mariko's final dinner show of her Takarasienne career, all the stops were pulled out, with a fantastic stage set up and her name quite literally in lights. Her back-up performers were Hazumi Rui, Akisono Mio, Miya Erika and Hisato Rie, who were given much more to do than in previous dinner shows.

The format of the show, after the initial songs, was Mariko reflecting on her career, starting from the very beginning, with the musumeyaku passing through the audience, handing out violets, in the traditional costume worn by little newbies on violet-selling day.

Mariko proceeded to work her way through her whole career, using diary-snippets as dialogue with the audience, and excerpts from songs and shows, including her shinjinkoen roles right up to her sayonara show.

From the rehearsal footage at the beginning and right through the show, Mariko is clearly a consummate professional, and clearly loved what she was doing. She knew how to not only play the crowd but use the stage, the light, the space, and accept and use support from her musumeyaku co-stars. It was also clear that they adored her and were happy to let her shine.

It was lovely to see the whole back-catalogue of roles come out again, and she was able to show off her fantastic dancing with some of the girls as well. The sheer joy on her face when performing and the way she simply had the audience eating out of the palm of her hand made it clear why she had made it to top star. The woman had charisma in spades.

Now, we just need to hope to see more roles from her in future ;) It's a fragile hope, but it's there.
