Summary: Based on Japanese mythology, the story follows the fallen God Susano-o and his return to his Godhood.
One word for you: OHMYHOLYFRICKINGSQUEE!
I'm completely smitten on this show. SMITTEN I TELL YOU. And my reasons?
Asami Hikaru (Komu) - one of the manliest Zukas ever to stride manfully about in a manly fashion. While playing one of the Japanese Gods, Susano-o of the title. While dressed like a Yuppie Biker from the 80s. With the biggest, baddest, froofiest wigs known to mankind. And a voice that is just oh. so. good. (And she does the best death-stare I ever saw. No breathing, no blinking, just very, very dead :D)
Mizu Natsuki - newest Zuka Death, and if she plays Death anything like she plays Aosetona, King of the Forest, she's going to have fangirls dead in their seats. Especially if she took what she did for this character and applies what she learned from a certain Mr. Kamaras. Rock-star Death to infinity :D
Really, she plays the most sneering, wicked, gleeful, malicious, downright smug villain, who isn't above the most base and dirty tricks at all (aka donning the cunning disguise as Susano-o's estranged sister, and tearing him a new one for being violent and aggressive again, when he promised not to be, even though it was while he was defending himself from one of Aosetona's giant-evil-snakes-o'-doom! and then using his guilty moment of wangst to stab him several times with his own sword)
The chemistry between them is fantastic, and you can see why they along with Maikaze Rira they became a top trio for a while. This was a point when Snow was crackling with energy and it really makes a fantastic watch.
And also? ZOMBIES!!! Zombies and dancing whore Goddesses and demonic possession! :D
Plus, for a show with the barest props, the most wacky costumes and one overall set, they manage to tell the story in a freaking amazing way. Susano-o's battle with Aosetona's multi-headed serpent is so simply done, but so effective :D
And there's angst! And there's drama! There are big ass drums! There's sibling family disputes! There's the bestest Zuka baddie I have ever fricking seen! With fangirls! There's a zombie! With a katana! Who pops out of hell for vengeance!
And even though they weren't Komu or Mizu, Hatsukaze Midori as Amaterasu-Oomi-Kami, Kazuho Sou as Tsuki-Yomi and Kei Otozuki as Amenouzume were all fantastic as well :) Especially Otozuki, who is an otokoyaku (recently playing Lucheni) but was playing this feisty little Goddess of 'the oldest entertainment' ;)
Really, I love this show so much. Its so much fun, combining the Japanese mythology with the contemporary Zuka style plus the costumes on wacky crack. I adore it :D
And the review is just as much fun, with Mizu clearly having a ball with her new troupe. There's a hat routine involving a large number of dancers and one less hat which is just fantastically done, and Komu gets to show of her skills.
