Casting - For Whom the Bell Tolls

So, a few weeks ago, I posted this:

I would love to see Kacha snag Rafael, the Gypsy rogue, who gets to sing in the camp. I have a suspicion that it might go to Tomochin, though. If Kacha gets Rafael or Joaquin (teen rebel who wanted to be a bullfighter), I would be more than happy.

I am clearly more than happy :) Plus, Tomochin as the singing gypsy = good.

However, I am also saddened by the news that Hoshihara Misao is retiring. I love Hoshi, and I was overjoyed when I heard I would be able to see her live this trip. And what a role for her to go out on. Maybe Pablo won't be as central as he was in the books, but since 'the Mayor' is mentioned, I really hope we get the flashbacks to young!Pablo before PTSD kicks in.

On the whole, though, am very pleased with the casting.

The news about Hoshihara Misao has had me wibbly since I read it this morning. (I admit I'm a little extra-sad that she's going out in a Soragumi show, since it's not a troupe I particularly follow. Either way: T__________T )

I'm not a big Soragumi fan - I follow it now for one particular person, and hardly know anyone else in the troupe. I do think Hoshi and Yuuhi will play off each other beautifully, though.

I'll take your word for it -- be interested in hearing what people think of the show, though. :3 I'm not familiar with the source novel either, which I'm sure doesn't help my initial "what?" reaction.

I've only read the book so I can follow the story ;) It's not all that fantastic, but it's okay.

*g* It's why I'm currently soldiering through The Brothers Karamazov, so I will have half a clue as to what on earth is happening.

(Then again, I'm reading history books because of plays, so I'm not sure what that says about me.)

I haven't got very far ;) Dostoyevsky could tell this whole story in 10% of the words. My, he babbles.

Mind you, I never read Genji so I could follow those shows. That was too much of a trial.

(That said, I've got a copy of it somewhere I keep meaning to find and try to read. <_< The $.25 sale books at the library keep finding their way onto my bookcase and I forget about them.)

I think my brother had to read The Brothers Karamazov for his AP English class and had mostly bad things to say about it. I never had that joy, but I do remember hating most of the stuff thrown at me in English/Literature classes. Classics, bah.

A friend loaned me a book of classics as haiku. Genji is as follows:

Two wives, ten consorts-
under the wisteria,
many warm futons

I think that sums it up :) (Incidentally, Liza Dalby's "The Tale of Murasaki" is actually fascinating and an interesting study of historical Japan)

*g* I did English as my joint degree at university. The things they made us read should have, by rights, made my head explode. Especially since I specifically did a class on Dickens.

Hoshi-san's retirement is sort of clouding over the casting news right now. I'm very sad to see her leave. She's one of my favorites. And there won't be any neat memorial goodies, since she isn't a Top Star, which makes it even more sad. Hopefully, since she's been in the Revue for so long, Hankyuu will do something nice for her. Now I'm definitely adding this to the DVD list, though, since I'll want her last performance.

She is my favorite Max in all the Elisabeths, and she got to play it twice!

She was the Max I wanted as my dad, when I saw her in the Tsuki one. She's just so wonderfully, gently benevolent, with a glint in her eyes. I loved her in Seal of Roses as well.
